Coalhurst Elementary School is located in the Town of Coalhurst, Alberta. The town is situated approximately three miles north the Lethbridge city limits. Some new residents have chosen the smaller town setting that Coalhurst offers, while continuing to work in Lethbridge. To a degree it is a "bedroom community." Most have a genuine sense of community though, and demonstrate it by becoming involved in community activities and supporting local businesses. The result is an active community seeking to keep pace with its growth and prosperity. As well as serving the town, Coalhurst educates students from the Village of Monarch and the rural areas surrounding both Coalhurst and Monarch. The Regional transportation system provides services (in conjunction with the needs of Coalhurst High) on three rural routes.
CES operates on the philosophy that all students have the right to learn and be safe. Each student must be in a school climate that is satisfying and productive. Home and school must share the responsibility for teaching acceptable behaviour. By working together we can ensure positive student conduct.
CES offers extensive learning support programs for students, including the Early Literacy Program, the Partnership Approach to Literacy (PAL) Project and the Program Enhancement Project (PEP)
We are pleased to offer both an Early Learning Program and an ECS program. Both programs run Monday-Thursday, with A.M. and P.M. classes.
CES has combined 1-6 grades. We have two grade 1 classes, four grade 2-3 classes and three 4-5 classes, and 1 grade 6 class.
